WHAT ARE SECULAR INSTITUTES?

Secular Institutes are made up of groups of lay men and/or women who give themselves to God and the Church with a special consecration lived in a fully secular way, that is, in the world.

Its members find in their professional practice the means of survival and the space for mission and witness to the Kingdom. They live the evangelical counsels from within the world: consecration is secular! Pope Paul VI (26/09/70) defines them as follows: “You belong to the Church in a special way, your title of consecrated secular”.

The members of the Institutes live with their families, alone or in small groups of people who share the same vocation or not.

SECULAR INSTITUTE OF THE MISSIONARIES OF THE ROYALTY OF CHRIST

The Secular Institute of the Missionaries of the Royalty of Christ was born in Assisi (Italy) on November 19, 1919, thanks to the spiritual experience of  Armida Barelli  and to intuition de  Father Agostinho Gemelli, ofm .

The Missionaries of the Royalty of Christ are laywomen consecrated to God who testify to the possibility of living the Gospel in the ordinary conditions of life.

From the beginning, the charism of the Institute has been secularism, lived in the Church and in the world, “from within history”, in following the poor, chaste and obedient Christ, to bear witness to the Gospel in daily life situations.

The full secularity and experience of Saint Francis of Assisi inspire and support the desire to live the Gospel in the midst of all the men and women of his own country and of his time, choosing the style of minority and service.

The Institute has no works of its own. The Missionary fully professes the evangelical counsels in the daily life of secular life, lives her mission in the most varied professional and social fields chosen as a service to the ecclesial and civil community, without distinctive signs, nor common life, in anonymity like salt and leaven in dough. . Lives alone or with family.

Faithful to the grace of its origins, the Institute lives the spirit of Saint Francis of Assisi, which is the authentic expression of the Gospel and responds to the needs of those who live consecration in the world. The missionary vocation is to realize the Kingdom of Christ in oneself and to communicate it to others. In order to fulfill this mission and live in love, the Missionaries of the Royalty of Christ live an evangelical life in today's world, observing the virtues of humility, simplicity and the perfect joy of the poor person of Assisi, because Franciscan spirituality is an authentic expression of the Gospel , especially the beatitudes.

THE CONSECRATION:

The Missionary lives in the world seeking perfection through the vow of chastity and the promises of obedience and poverty, which are accepted by the Church.

Vow of Chastity: This vow requires the renunciation of the right to marriage and the living of the virtue of purity. He tries to make a mature judgment in the various circumstances of life, cultivating healthy friendships, dressing modestly according to his class and station in life.

Poverty promise: The missionary retains the right to all her goods and inheritances, but presents to those responsible an annual report on the use of personal goods that must be managed in a spirit of detachment and charity according to her possibilities.

Promise of obedience: The missionary voluntarily accepts the obligation to obey those responsible within the limits of the Constitutions, in the spirit of faith, joy and openness. She shows a special love and respect for the Pope, as well as for Bishops and priests.
